Future Friday

Future Friday is a first step in a multi-annual programme aimed at increasing interest for education and work in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Almost all parts of society use products and services for today’s and tomorrow’s needs developed by companies in ICT. Irrespective of whether these are new internet services, wireless services, services in healthcare, environmental technology, energy, democratic processes, knowledge transfer, transport systems, home entertainment, gaming, etc. these are built on an application of products and services from ICT companies. Solutions to many global issues concerning pollution, the aging population, poverty and sickness are using research and applications in ICT.

Multi-stage rocket
Future Friday is the first stage to increase interest in higher education at universities. Stage two is to ensure that students obtain good business contacts during their studies for guidance and to prepare for their choice of profession. This is to take place using companies in Kista Science City, which are to offer mentorship, work experience, and propose subjects for doctoral theses. Stage three is to prepare students with ICT knowledge for a career as entrepreneur. Many graduating students will begin working in new entrepreneur-managed companies or will start their own businesses. This project will be part of entrepreneurship training and is to create support systems for enterprise and innovations.

Awakening interest for higher education in ICT
The initiative for Future Friday and the Kista Science City programme for “Higher Education, Skills-Provision, and Entrepreneurship” comes from Ericsson, KTH, Kista Science City AB and the Electrum Foundation – an operation that aims to create greater collaboration between the business community and academia and is active in generating interest for higher education in the field of ICT.

To continue this exciting development of Kista Science City, we need even more students, tutors, researchers, employees and entrepreneurs in Kista Science City.
