Research and education in Kista Science City

World-class research environments and higher education
Two strong universities and the highest concentration of researchers focused on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Northern Europe, make Kista Science City a completely unique research and development cluster. This has resulted in a strong growth in innovations, patents and new businesses.

Higher education in ICT
Campus Kista is a leading centre for higher ICT education in Sweden, and a key element in the development of Kista Science City. Two strong universities collaborate here, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the University of Stockholm, focusing on infrastructure in the IT society in its widest possible meaning – from nanophysics to the meeting between people and technology. Both universities jointly develop the academic environment at Campus Kista. This collaboration has created a unique academic environment in Sweden, where lecturers, researchers, and students collaborate with each other, with established industry players, and with the surrounding society.

Students read subjects such as IT & Communication Science, Information Technology, Marketing Communication, Multimedia, Electronics, Systems and Computer Science, Computer Technology, Computer Game Development, Business & IT, Entrepreneurship, Human-Computer Interaction and much more.

Cross-fertilisation between universities, the research community, and industry
Kista Science City includes the highest concentration of ICT researchers in Northern Europe and is one of Sweden’s foremost research clusters. More than one thousand researchers are active in research and development, in unique collaborations between business, institutions and universities. This leads to world-leading patented innovations and growth in the form of new companies

Business research
Among Kista Science City’s more than 525 ICT companies, research and development is being carried out in everything from mobile consumer products to the next generation of communication systems and software. The range is as great as the difference in size between the companies. One of the largest is Ericsson with its Wireless Networks and Multimedia business areas.
