Stockholm/Kista Science City Named Intelligent Community of Year 2009 by ICF - Europe’s “Green Capital” Receives Honor in New York during NYU/Polytechnic Event

The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) named Stockholm with ICT cluster Kista Science City, Sweden the Intelligent Community of the Year for 2009 at an awards ceremony this afternoon at Steiner Film Studios in Brooklyn, New York. The Scandanavian community, known for its prowess in innovative technologies and its quality of life, was represented by a delegation led by its Vice Mayor Ulf Kristersson, which included its Consul General, Ambassador Ulf Hjertonsson. ICF Co-Founder Louis Zacharilla presented the award to Stockholm, which succeeded the Gangnam District of Seoul (Korea), the 2008 recipient.

European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the prestigious European venture on technology and innovation, has now appointed the first two Knowledge and Innovation Community, KIC. Within the field of information an communication technology the application with KTH as coordinator - EIT ICT Labs - was selected. Five leading European ICT-clusters are behind the application that aims to make Europe world-leading within ICT. Stockholm, Berlin, Helsinki, Paris and Eindhoven will now jointly build the network EIT IC Labs.

Swedish TeliaSonera SB launches 4G-services in Stockholm and Olso
Sweden's TeliaSonera AB (TLSN.SK) on Monday became the first telecom operator to launch fourth-generation mobile services commercially, but industry analysts downplayed the milestone, cautioning it will mean little for consumers beyond faster speeds.
TeliaSonera said the 4G network will be up to ten times faster than its current 3G one and allow customers to enjoy new services on the go such as high-definition TV, mobile conferencing and extensive gaming.
